Nanopuncture™ is Dr. Shiu’s unique acupuncture system that integrates Western neurological analysis, eastern medicine knowledge of the tendinomuscular meridians of the body, and Dr. Shiu’s specific neurological acupuncture techniques.

Facial Acupuncture

Shiu Clinic facial acupuncture restores and preserves natural beauty by:

• Increasing collagen and elastin to reduce fine line and wrinkles

• Smoothing skin to improve texture

• Balancing skin surface irregularities to improve skin tone

We use both Eastern and Western methods in our facial acupuncture treatment, including:

• Photobiomodulation Light Therapy

• Facial cupping techniques

• Gua Sha

• Organic Korean hydrogel mask with electrical stimulation which is used to tone muscles, increase circulation and lymph flow, and relax facial muscles

• 45-minute session Mini Facial or 60-minute extended session (includes hydrogel mask with electrical stimulation)

Please arrive at your appointment with a clean, makeup-free face or be prepared to remove makeup before treatment. Although you may see great results on the first session, we recommend at least 10-12 sessions to get you started. You can come in 3 times/week for 4 weeks, twice per week for 6 weeks, or once per week for 12 weeks. Packages available upon request.

Massage

The Shiu Clinic incorporates massage during acupuncture treatments if needed, and massage therapy sessions can also be booked separately. Our rejuvenating massages are customizable and tailored to your specific needs in order to treat a wide range of conditions.

Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicine is a significant part of Traditional Chinese Medicine that has been practiced for over 2 millennia.  It recognizes that one symptom can have many different origins.  Our herbalists will create and dispense a personalized formula to treat the root causes of your condition.

All of our custom herbal formulas are blended in-house with the highest quality, most easily absorbable granulated herbs.

Herbal Consultations

Our herbalists will conduct a detailed intake and history in order to:

• Determine the etiology of the disease

• Determine whether the condition is acute or chronic, whether you are in excess or deficient in certain herbs, and whether it affects the superficial or deep layers of the body

• Account for hereditary factors to see where your natural deficiencies lie, taking into account your constitution and lifestyle

The herbalist will briefly examine your tongue, pulse, and abdomen for an objective picture of your condition.

Supplementing Acupuncture with Herbal Medicine

Herbs are absorbed into the digestive tract and distributed through the bloodstream. They are especially effective in tandem with acupuncture; these treatments both work to create local and systemic changes in the body.

qEEG Evaluation 

The Shiu Clinic is among the small number of neurological clinics that perform qEEG brain scans In-House using BrainMaster qEEG Evaluation technology for cognitive improvement.

The clinic uses this advanced technology to analyze patient progress in our neurological programs.  The qEEG device provides a neurological map, allowing patients to see what parts of their brain have encephalopathies, or conditions that alter brain function or structure.  The scan is especially useful for patients who have suffered concussion or traumatic brain injury.

qEEG Evaluations can reveal abnormal brain activity associated with:

qEEG Neurofeedback Training - Helping the Nervous System Regulate Itself

Rarely used in other neurological clinics, the advanced qEEG Brainmaster equipment allows Dr. Shiu to assess the progress of his patient’s health while in his care.  The qEEG offers patients an objective imaging of the brain and shows which areas might be affected by inflammation- even in seemingly hidden or unexpected places. As accurate as a functional MRI, the qEEG device is particularly effective for concussion and CNS patients. The BrainMaster provides analysis, neurofeedback, and allows the patient to actively participate in regulating irregular brainwave activity. 

The Shiu Clinic remains the only healthcare facility to offer acupuncture during a qEEG neurofeedback session.

In addition to analytics, the BrainMaster provides neurofeedback training that can be used with patients of all ages with a wide variety of concerns.  Patients are active participants during this therapy and are able to see how their brain is responding in real time.  For many patients seeking this form of training, their brains have become stuck in a rigid pattern of responding. With neurofeedback, we can help the brain to become more flexible and efficient, allowing the patient to be better able to adapt to challenges in the future.

Photobiomodulation Therapy

Photobiomodulation therapy (PBM) in our state of the art light bed uses specific types of light to trigger body changes on a cellular level. This therapy was discovered in 1967 and its efficacy has since been supported by hundreds of randomized clinical studies for a wide range of conditions.

How does it work?

• Similar to photosynthesis, which is the process by which plants convert sunlight to food, photobiomodulation uses light as energy to promote and enhance cell energy production  

• PBM works by increasing ATP, which is the source of energy for every cell in your body.  When cells absorb near-infrared light, their efficiency is optimized, which increases your body’s ability to fight disease, accelerates healing processes, and reduces oxidative stress  

• Because PBM streamlines overall cellular function and production, this form of light therapy is potentially beneficial for almost any health condition.  It has been particularly beneficial for our patients with Covid Long Haulers Syndrome who suffer from chronic fatigue
